Measurable Improvement
A real-world study reported an 83% response rate. This means that 83% of patients that completed their NeuroStar treatment cycle saw measurable improvement in their depression symptoms.**12
Achieved Complete Remission
The same real-world study reported a 62% remission rate. This means that 62% of patients that completed their NeuroStar treatment cycle likely wouldn’t be diagnosed with MDD if they were first being evaluated by their doctor.**12
Decreasing Remission with Meds
By comparison, in a separate study not involving NeuroStar, for patients who have not found relief from 3 or more antidepressants, the chance of remission from subsequent medications is less than 7%.6,7,17,18
What is NeuroStar Advanced TMS Therapy?
Neurostar Advanced Therapy is Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), a non-drug treatment for major depression. NeuroStar Advanced Therapy uses focused magnetic pulses, similar to an MRI, to reignite dormant synapses in the brain and help your brain function the way it was meant to.
NeuroStar Advanced TMS Therapy is not a drug, “shock therapy”, or surgery. It is a safe, effective treatment for depression without the side effects of medication.
FDA-Cleared
This therapy meets rigorous federal standards for safety and effectiveness.
Medication Free
Patients can benefit without the side effects or dependency risks often associated with medications.
Non-Invasive
TMS stimulates targeted areas of the brain using magnetic pulses without surgery or anesthesia.
Evidenced Based Treatment
Backed by clinical research, TMS uses proven methods to help improve mental health outcomes

What are NeuroStar Treatments Like?
1
Before Treatment
You’ll recline comfortably in the treatment chair. A small, curved magnetic coil will be positioned lightly on your head.
2
During Treatment
NeuroStar Advanced Therapy TMS uses magnetic pulses to help people find relief from their depression symptoms. NeuroStar TMS is non-systemic, and does not include the use of medications or antidepressants.
3
After Treatment
Each treatment takes 19 minutes. You can resume normal activities immediately. Because there are no effects on alertness or memory, you can drive yourself to and from treatment sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions
NeuroStar Advanced Therapy is an innovative, FDA-cleared therapy that can help people who struggle with MDD even after taking antidepressant medication. It helps activate the natural function of the brain’s neurotransmitters using a non-invasive magnetic field, and is not ECT (electroconvulsive therapy).
The NeuroStar Advanced TMS Therapy system uses short pulses of magnetic fields to stimulate the area of the brain that is thought to function abnormally in patients with depression. The magnetic field produces an electric current in the brain that stimulates the brain cells (neurons). This results in changes that are thought to be beneficial in the treatment of depression.
Due to its innovative treatment and proven efficacy, NeuroStar TMS Therapy may be covered by your insurance health plan. Many insurance companies have established medical coverage policies for NeuroStar TMS Therapy. Over 300 million patients have insurance policies that cover NeuroStar TMS Therapy through their health plans.
NeuroStar® is non-systemic (does not circulate in the blood throughout the body), so it does not have side effects such as weight gain, sexual dysfunction, nausea, dry mouth, sedation, etc. The most common side effects reported during clinical trials were headache and scalp discomfort – generally mild to moderate – occurring less frequently after the first week of treatment.
No. TMS Therapy involves a unique method of using pulsed magnetic fields for therapeutic benefit. The intensity of the magnetic field is similar to that of the magnetic fields used in magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI. These techniques differ radically from the popular use of low intensity, static magnetic fields. These products deliver weak and undirected static fields that are not capable of activating brain cells.
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) uses a targeted pulsed magnetic field, similar to what is used in an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) machine. While the patient is awake and alert, NeuroStar Advanced TMS Therapy stimulates areas of the brain that are underactive in depression.
- You’ll recline comfortably in the treatment chair
- A small, curved magnetic coil will be positioned lightly on your head
- NeuroStar delivers focused magnetic stimulation directly to the target areas of the brain
- In-office treatment with NeuroStar TMS Therapy takes 19-37 minutes.
- You will be fully awake and alert. You can read or watch TV and return to work after your treatment with no restrictions.

**Outcomes Registry data was published by Sackeim HA, et al. J Affective Disorders, 2020, 277(12):65-74. The outcomes reported represent the subset of study patients for which the CGI-S data was reported before and after an acute course of NeuroStar TMS. Patients were treated under real-world conditions where patients may have been prescribed concomitant depression treatments including medications. “Measurable relief” was defined as a CGI-S score <=3 and “complete remission” was defined as a CGI-S score <=2 at the end of treatment.
***Patients received more than one course of treatment and were treated with standard of care. Standard of care also included medications. CGI-S represents the scale used to define response and remission.
Adult Indication
The NeuroStar Advanced Therapy System is indicated for the treatment of depressive episodes and for decreasing anxiety symptoms for those who may exhibit comorbid anxiety symptoms in adult patients suffering from Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and who failed to achieve satisfactory improvement from previous antidepressant medication treatment in the current episode.
The NeuroStar Advanced Therapy System is intended to be used as an adjunct for the treatment of adult patients suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
Adolescent Indication
NeuroStar Advanced Therapy is indicated as an adjunct for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) in adolescent patients (15-21).
NeuroStar Advanced Therapy is only available by prescription. A doctor can help decide if NeuroStar Advanced Therapy is right for you. Patients’ results may vary.
Important Safety Information
NeuroStar Advanced Therapy is only available by prescription. A doctor can help decide if NeuroStar Advanced Therapy is right for you. Patients’ results may vary.
The most common side effect is pain or discomfort at or near the treatment site. These events are transient; they occur during the TMS treatment course and do not occur for most patients after the first week of treatment. There is a rare risk of seizure associated with the use of TMS therapy (<0.1% per patient).
NeuroStar Advanced Therapy should not be used with patients who have non-removable conductive metal in or near the head. NeuroStar Advanced Therapy has not been studied in patients who have not received prior antidepressant treatment.
